The design was done in gold metallic paint through a single use masking stencil specially sized for the space. It really did warm the room and give it that something special.

Before

After

This design was inspired by another artist's work that had been rendered on a concrete vertical surface. The designer wanted something similar for his clients new home. The media chosen to render it in was EcoProvence Eco Plaster, one of my favorites for its "green" properties.

Here's I used the paisley design from The Stencil Library rendered in a base of Ebony Lusterstone and embossed with Venetian plaster. This compliments the fabric on the walls as seen below.

Whatever your interior space, don't forget the fifth wall - your ceiling! There are people who look at a glass with 50% water in it and see it as either half full or half empty. We've all heard this of course, but do we truly know which category we belong in? And do others see us as we see ourselves? I think of myself as the glass half full type. I have spent the better part of 50 years believing in sweet over sour, light over dark, good over evil, etc. And even though many hardships and hurtful events have touched my life, I still choose to take something positive from them and remain hopeful about life and the journey we are all on. If we could all see the silver lining in things, would it change the way we live? Would we spend more time with our family, travel to some place we always wanted to go, plant a garden, sit on a porch swing and sip lemonade, lie in a hammock, fish in the lake, canoe on the river, take in a play, change jobs, buy a home, call an old friend...what kinds of things would we do, if we felt optimistic, like we could do anything? Take the end of the tunnel challenge and think positive. Let's all light our candle and let everyone see the light...
What does this have to do with faux painting? Well, it has been a difficult time for many businesses, especially a "luxury" one such as faux finishing. Some would say it is just not a necessity in our lives. I disagree. I could not be happy coming home to white walls. In fact, I'd be downright depressed. For me, color and texture and art are as vital to my spirit as water and oxygen are to my body. I am constantly moved by the beauty of all kinds of ephemera in my life, and my glazed, plastered, stoned, tissued, sueded, and embossed walls are no exception. (I think if my house could talk, it would tell my walls, "You complete me.") So if you need a little enchantment in your personal space, think faux. It will get you seeing your world in a whole new way!
Color Faux Trends for 2009

The need to know what is in the future for color trends is an important topic. Commercial clients want to be sure they attract and engage their customers, while homeowners want to be seen as current, not dated. No one wants to hear, "That's so 80's..." or something similar. So where does one turn to for guidance? There are groups out there who determine TNBC - or the next big color - and then disseminate this info for money. These folks need to know years ahead what TNBC is because the fabrics, furniture, art, etc. will be based on these projections and the world will follow suit. For those of us at the end of the line so to speak there are, thankfully, some sources available to help us know what is current. The one I am focusing on today is The Color Guild, comprised of more than 55 independent paint manufacturers from 14 different countries, dedicated to the marketing, promotion and selling of paint products. The combined expertise and experience of the member companies makes Color Guild uniquely qualified to serve as a definitive resource on color and coatings. Color Guild 2009 paint trends are derived by researching and observing color trends and social issues around the globe, including ecological issues, technology discoveries, political issues and even sporting events.
According to this resource, "One of the overriding paint trends in 2009 will be the return to elemental colors," said Lynn Ludlow, Color Guild color consultant. "A focus on the state of the global economy, as well as the environment will bring consumers back to neutral colors, such as muted yellows, soft grays, calf browns and khakis, in the home." And commercial clients will follow this trend as they want customers to feel at home in the work and retail environments. Think natural, organic, earthy colors for 2009 since everyone is wanting to feel down to earth in this time of uncertainty.
Consumers can get the inside scoop on color trends in the pocket-size Color Canvas Collection card, color disks and paints at Color Guild member locations. Visit www.colorguild.com for a list of members.

Tattoo Wall Art

Wallchemy is proud to announce being chosen as the Central Florida retailer for <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Italy’s Tattoo Wall Art. Many influences are considered before we finalize the right finish for a particular area. Fabrics, art, flooring, accessories, use of the room, style of the home – all affect the choices. We have spent many years studying where and when to use different finishes in every situation. Our slogan says it all, “Creating ambiance through art, color, and texture.”
ART: our decorative finishes can create, compliment, or coordinate with artwork.
COLOR: an understanding of color psychology allows us to guide your color choices. The mood of a room is affected greatly by its color. For instance, we wouldn’t advise a sunny yellow for a restful bedroom, or a calming blue for a cheerful kitchen.
TEXTURE: plays an important part in creating needed depth and contrast when neutral palettes are chosen. Think grasscloth, linen, or stone effects.

visit Wallchemy.com for more information

What Wallchemy can do for you?

What is wallchemy and what can it do for you?

Wallchemy is a process using art and science to transfaux your ordinary surfaces into gold! Faux is term that comes from the French word meaning fake and originally used to describe artistic renderings that matched wood grains, marbles and semi-precious stones. In recent years, its use has expanded to apply to a number of decorative finishes that adorn the surfaces of todays homes. These finishes can add character, define boundaries or open up spaces, cover surface imperfections, protect traffic areas, allow for easy changes, and avoid the unsightly seams and potential for mold of other wallcoverings.

Visit wallchemy.com
